“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and Fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts 2:42
Logos: The Mid-Week Miracle
The Logos Ministry at DPC is a program for Kindergarten through High School youth. It provides a mid-week lift and renewal through quality Christian experiences. Logos strives to nurture kids in their Christian faith by providing four equally important program parts in which every young person participates each Wednesday night beginning in September through the first of May. These four parts are Bible study, Recreation, Family Time, and Worship Skills.
Bible Study is critical to the LOGOS program because it is here that we tell our common story and discover who we are. It is where we learn about the stories of God’s relationship with people and their relationship with one another.
Worship Skills provides kids time to learn about worship and to prepare for leadership in regular congregational worship services. Youth and children become an integral part of worship and it becomes a part of their lives as well. They participate in Children’s choir, Hand bell choir, Youth led worship services, and much more throughout the year.
Recreation time is a time when kids and youth learn to play together under the direction of adult leaders in the church. The challenge of this play time is learning how to treat others as children of God even at the most difficult moments. Therefore we play for theological reasons as well as for fun. We cannot play without revealing a part of us that many times is not shown in the church setting. It is through recreation time that we learn more about ourselves and others.
Family Time is not just a time to eat. It is a time when families of young people and adults are formed around tables. These table families care for and about each other as they share food, fun, and conversation each week. Just as Jesus is known to his disciples in the breaking of bread, so are we known to each other when we share a meal.
The Logos ministry seeks to involve all ages through leadership from clergy, participation from parents and congregation, and a commitment from kids from kindergarten through high school. We will meet from 5:00 until 7:30 on Wednesdays beginning September 13, 2017.
AGAPE
(Adult Groups about Personal Enrichment) is a Wednesday night program providing Christian fellowship for all adults. Beginning in September and ending in May, this ministry typically combines a catered meal with a program to follow. Currently we explore various topics through Bible Study, Music, special speakers, and more. Due to COVID, we are not having dinner together, but when we resume, reservations for dinner can be made on Sundays during the worship service or by calling the church office at (615)883-3248. Dinner begins at 6:00 pm, followed by the program which ends about 7:30.
